An engaging Early Years Programme (EYP) workshop on “Sustainability in Everyday Teaching and Learning” was conducted on 29th April 2026 at Gateway International School, Hyderabad. The session brought together around 25 educators for an interactive and reflective learning experience focused on building sustainable practices within schools.
Rethinking Sustainability in Education

The workshop began by exploring sustainability as more than just an environmental concept. Teachers were encouraged to view sustainability as a way of thinking and living—one that can be reflected through everyday habits, routines, and choices within the classroom and beyond. The session emphasized the importance of introducing these ideas early, helping children develop respect for themselves, others, and the environment.
Sustainability in Everyday Classroom Practices

A key focus of the program was on practical, easy-to-implement strategies that teachers can adopt in their daily classroom routines. Educators explored ways to:
The discussions highlighted that small, consistent actions can lead to meaningful long-term impact.
Beyond the Classroom: Building Sustainable Mindsets
The workshop also addressed the role of teachers in modeling sustainable behavior. Participants reflected on how their own actions influence children’s attitudes and habits. The importance of creating a culture of responsibility, care, and awareness within the school environment was strongly emphasized.
Collaborative Learning and Reflection

Teachers actively participated in group discussions and collaborative activities, sharing ideas and experiences from their own classrooms. These interactions helped build a deeper understanding of how sustainability can be integrated naturally into both teaching practices and school culture.
Moving Towards Action

The session concluded with a reflection activity where participants identified practical changes they could implement in their classrooms and personal routines. This ensured that the learning from the workshop translates into real, actionable outcomes.

The workshop served as a meaningful platform to inspire educators to embrace sustainability as a lifestyle and not just a concept. By equipping teachers with practical strategies and perspectives, the program aimed to nurture environmentally responsible and conscious communities starting from the early years.
