On the 11th of October, the second batch of 63 fifth-grade students from Sancta Maria paid a visit to the OES farm. During their trip, they had the opportunity to engage in various hands-on farming experiences and take a comprehensive tour of the entire farm.

The farm tour commenced with an explanation of the concept of Mandala Gardens and their significance. The children had the chance to explore a beautiful Flower and Herb Mandala Garden.

In addition to this, they also had the opportunity to visit the Papaya Plantation and learn about fruit pest management. The students gained insights into how water is harvested and utilized for irrigation purposes.

They also learned about how soybean is separated from its shell using traditional methods.

Inside the Polyhouse, the students learned about the importance of protected cultivation and how it benefits plant growth.

Their journey continued to the Banana Plantation, where they discovered the various benefits of banana plants. Adjacent to the banana plantation, they visited the nursery farm and gained an understanding of the importance of nurturing plants in their infancy.

One of the highlights of their visit was when the children actively participated in making Jeevamrutham, a natural fertilizer. This was a highly engaging group activity that provided them with hands-on experience. They mixed cow urine, cow dung, jaggery, besan, and soil in water to create this organic fertilizer. During this process, they also learned about soil testing.

The students further participated in soil preparation using various farm tools and sowed seeds of palak, coriander, and methi. This was an invaluable experience for them, as they were guided by experts on how to properly loosen the soil and carefully sow the seeds.
