What happens when families step away from their routines and spend a day learning directly from the land?
At Organo Damaragidda, learning took a different form as 30 families came together for an immersive workshop designed to reconnect them with nature, farming, soil and traditional practices on 22nd August 2026.
The experience began with a walk through the pathways of Damaragidda, where families explored the diverse plant life growing around them. Horticulturists Jagadeesh and Prudhvi guided the participants, introducing them to different plant species and sharing insights about their characteristics, uses and role within a healthy ecosystem.
The journey then moved from observation to action.
Families visited the farm, where they were introduced to seeds that had been soaked in water beforehand and prepared for sowing. Participants had the opportunity to choose what they wanted to grow, with some opting for gongura and others choosing methi.
With their hands in the soil, both children and adults carefully sowed their seeds. What might seem like a simple farming activity became an opportunity to understand the beginning of the food cycle—and to experience the patience and care required to grow something from the ground.
The joy was not limited to sowing. Families also got the opportunity to harvest fresh methi leaves and cluster beans, bringing the experience full circle—from seed to soil to harvest.
The workshop then took an artistic turn as children and adults tried their hands at pottery.
Working with clay offered another tactile connection with the earth. Participants shaped, moulded and experimented with the material, discovering the creativity that can emerge when we slow down and work with our hands.
For several participants, the workshop also sparked deeper questions about soil health and natural farming.
Families were curious to understand how natural farming works and explored practices such as Jeevamrutham, Kashayam, natural pesticides and bio-fertilisers. They engaged with the Farmscaping team, asking questions about how these methods support soil health, plant growth and a more natural farming ecosystem.
The conversations went beyond simply learning what is used on a farm. Participants wanted to understand why these practices matter, how they work and how natural farming can create healthier relationships between soil, plants, people and the environment.
The workshop at Organo Damaragidda was a reminder that our connection with nature can grow through simple experiences—walking among plants, sowing a seed, harvesting food, shaping clay and asking questions about the soil beneath our feet.
For children, it was an opportunity to explore nature through their senses. For adults, it was a chance to rediscover practices and processes that often remain hidden behind the food we see on our plates.
And for families together, it became something more meaningful: a shared experience of learning, creating and reconnecting with the living world.
