On 21 May 2022 Saturday, OES launched the first workshop of the series Art Appreciation in Nature workshops by Anurag Dahiya.

This workshop series aims to rekindle the bond between children and nature. It invited children of age 4-14 years, for an art interface in nature setting of Slow Down Place, a unique garden restaurant in Hyderabad. The place was just right for this kind of workshop, where in our art expert Ms.Anurag Dahiya brought a new perspective to art by making compositions with green leaves, stones and flowers. She is a self trained artist with a flair for colors and nature works depicted on art frames.

So the workshop started with Anurag asking the children to be with nature in the beautiful vegetable garden and pick some small stones or pebbles, some nice green leaves and flowers, whatever appeals to them. All of them happily got up and went running around to look for these natural picks. It was amazing to watch them move in the garden looking for leaves and flowers that looked pleasing and attractive to them. As they say, beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder! So having collected a few leaves, tiny stones, and some flowers from vegetable plants around, children ran back to Anurag to share their collections.

Anurag then discussed with them the meaning of composition in art, its subject, and portrayal of the same through colors on brown color paper bags. She introduced a novel idea of “Art that you can use”. Children adapted to this new concept instantly. They really liked it. Once they were done with the natural composition of leaves, stones, and flowers, transferred to paper with help of colors & brushes, and glitter pens. Anurag introduced some more art techniques using leaves that they had collected a while ago, as a stencil or a painted stamp. Kids loved this new play of colors on greeting card sheets provided by OES.

Everybody very happily hung their creations on a rope to dry with wooden clips that Anurag had arranged for them. This activity was in itself an interesting way of displaying, sharing and enjoying each other’s creativity and skills. All in all, each child loved the workshop and some of them even refused to leave the venue as they were not yet done with the fun they were having there.
